14 Dead in Horrific Kampala–Gulu Highway Accident at Bobi Trading Centre
Fourteen people have been confirmed dead while 28 others sustained injuries following a tragic road crash along the Kampala–Gulu Highway at Bobi Trading Centre in Omoro District. The fatal accident happened on Tuesday night at around 9:34 p.m. and involved an Opit Travellers passenger bus and a Mercedes-Benz trailer.

According to preliminary findings from the Uganda Police Traffic Directorate, the bus driver was reportedly speeding when he attempted to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle before crashing head-on into the oncoming trailer. The impact left the bus extensively damaged and resulted in multiple fatalities at the scene.

Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura confirmed that 14 people lost their lives, while 28 others survived with injuries of varying severity. The injured victims were rushed to nearby health facilities where they are receiving medical treatment as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety on Uganda's highways, where speeding, reckless driving, and dangerous overtaking remain among the leading causes of fatal crashes. Authorities have urged all motorists to observe traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds, and exercise extra caution, especially when driving at night, to help reduce the growing number of road accidents across the country.
