Justin Verlander Announces Retirement After 2026 MLB Season

Justin Verlander has announced that the 2026 Major League Baseball season will be the final chapter of his remarkable career, bringing an end to more than two decades as one of baseball's greatest pitchers. The 43-year-old Detroit Tigers star confirmed his decision in an emotional statement, saying he always hoped the game itself would tell him when it was time to step away, and he now feels that moment has arrived.

Verlander, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and the 2011 American League Most Valuable Player, has built a legacy that few pitchers can match. Over 21 seasons in Major League Baseball, he has earned 266 career victories, recorded more than 3,500 strikeouts, thrown three no-hitters, and won two World Series championships with the Houston Astros. His achievements have secured his place among the greatest pitchers in baseball history and make him a strong first-ballot Hall of Fame candidate.

The veteran pitcher began his MLB journey with the Detroit Tigers after being selected second overall in the 2004 MLB Draft. He later enjoyed successful spells with the Houston Astros, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants before returning to Detroit for what will now be his farewell season.
