In a candid exchange at the Brooklyn Academy of Music last week, former First Lady Michelle Obama reflected on the persistent barriers to female leadership in America, drawing directly from the sting of last year's election results. Speaking with actor Tracee Ellis Ross to promote her latest book, The Look—a thoughtful exploration of how style intersected with power during her White House years—Obama didn't mince words when asked if the nation has carved out enough space for a woman in the Oval Office."As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain't ready," she said, her voice carrying the weight of quiet frustration. Turning the question back on the audience's long-standing hopes for her own candidacy, she added, "That's why I'm like, don't even look at me about running 'cause you all are lying. You're not ready for a woman.
